Wreck-it Ralph!!!

I worked for a very short time on Wreck it in Visual Development, but really enjoyed it. So many fantastic artists were in the v-dev team...a very intimidating prospect!!! Both Mike Gabriel and Ian Gooding (art directors on the film) brought really terrific and different sensibilities to the film.  Go see it---its a really fun and really beautiful film. Be sure to look for the art of Ryan Lang, Helen Chen, Jeffrey Turley, Kevin Nelson, Andy Harkness, Brittany Lee, Shiyoon Kim, Minkyu Lee, Lorelay Bove, Scott Watanabe, Mac George, Mike Gabriel,  Ian Gooding, James Finch, Vicky Ying, Justin Cram, Bill Perkins, and Jim Finn.

Ralph Bad-anon moment. Painted over CG renders...with rough character help from the fantastic Bill Schwab. Based on a color render from lighting lead, Chris Springfield. Character color based on art by Cory Loftis. Art direction by Mike Gabriel and Ian Gooding

Tappers Moment. Based on a color key from Andy Harkness. Characters worked with guidance from Bill Schwab. Art direction by Mike Gabriel and Ian Gooding

Color and Lighting /Figure Painting Class -UPDATED w/ In Class Demos

I'm teaching a painting class for the first since I taught at Mark Westermoe's school in Sherman Oaks back around 2000. The main gist of the class is seeing and recognizing natural color relationships and pushing them. Learning to observe color from life and increasing your repertoire of color combinations....

The purpose of the in class demos is not to show how well I can paint, but to teach an idea or concept. Although these are loose, drawing and structure is always stressed

Mac George site...incredible graphic art

The entire time I've been lucky enough to be working at Disney----there's been only a few artists I would call absolutely extraordinary. Mac is at the top of this list with Glen Keane and a few others. The worst part is...he's about the nicest guy you could ever meet.

Look and enjoy!!!

The first retrospective fully dedicated to the drawings of Gustav Klimt (1862–1918)

The drawings of Gustav Klimt (1862–1918)

I haven't gone yet to this myself, but a friend has---beautiful very sensitive drawings. Oh, and its actually happening...as opposed to my last post on Klimt!!!

Having Fun (DAMMIT) .....or a few diddies I did in James Paick's class

Misc Doodles (huh?)

The Temple of Liger (James' Gathering Card assignment)

Antihistamine ground support troops. Administering antihistamine spray on half-tracks to large snouts dripping snot, while giant pollens attack. Its a plausible story....

These are all a few pieces that I did in James Paick's Environmental design class at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena. The main thrust of the class tends to be sci-fi oriented and post-apocapolyptic. My challenge for myself, was to try to be more light hearted about it (most of the class is very game-centric, as opposed to what we do here at Disney---which is always about charm and appeal---NO MATTER WHAT the subject matter). If you want to do "Sucker Punch" the animated series, then we're not the studio for you. Note quite sure if I was successful, but I did have fun. James is a terrific painter and very direct in his painting and also teaching. I highly recommend taking from him!!

Kevyn Wallace. A true gem of a human being who left us way to soon. I thought I didn't have this painting anymore--but I was wrong. Painted alongside the brilliant Sunny Apinchapong in his studio. RIP, brother Kevyn.

Scottsdale Artist School Open Studio. I took Ray Roberts and Mark Daily back to back (this was around 1999-2000-ish). Mark is still one of my all time favorite painters. Too smart for his own good.

A couple of self portraits (I try to paint the night before my class).

This is the only guy stupid enough to pose for me.
